The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)] Port Blair City Area Committee organised a candlelight march on Saturday evening (9th August 2025) at Sri Vijaya Puram to protest against the frequent power cuts affecting Sri Vijaya Puram and nearby rural areas of South Andaman.

The march, which began from the Gandhi statue at Mohanpura and concluded in front of the Municipal Council office, saw the participation of CPI (M) workers and supporters carrying candles as a symbolic protest.

Addressing the gathering, D. Ayyappan, Secretary of the State Organising Committee, strongly criticised the Modi government for the persistent power disruptions, alleging failure to address the islanders’ grievances. He asserted that the party would intensify its agitations in the coming days to “expose the BJP government’s inaction.”

Other speakers included D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member, and P. Sathyapal, Secretary of the Port Blair City Area Committee, who also condemned the administration’s handling of the situation.

The march was led by State Secretariat Member B. Chandrachoodan and State Organising Committee Member SP Kalairajan.
