The Port Blair City Area Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)] organized a mass dharna on 7th October 2025 in front of the office of the Chief Engineer, APWD, at Sri Vijaya Puram, to protest against the deteriorating condition of urban roads in the capital city.

Inaugurating the demonstration, D. Ayyappan, State Secretary of CPI (M), strongly criticized the Central Government for failing to take concrete steps to repair and renovate the damaged roads across the islands. He said that most roads within the Municipal area are riddled with potholes, cracks, and uneven surfaces, posing serious risks to commuters and contributing to frequent accidents. He also accused the BJP-led government of neglecting public infrastructure by not allocating adequate funds for road maintenance and repair.

Addressing the gathering, P. Banerjee, senior CPI (M) leader, alleged that large-scale corruption in government works has worsened the condition of roads in the islands. P. Sathyapal, Secretary, and N. K. P. Nair, Member of the Port Blair City Area Committee, also spoke during the protest.

The programme was attended by Dr. Gouranga Majhi, State Secretariat Member, and S. P. Kalairajan, SOC Member. A large number of people participated in the dharna, voicing their demand for immediate action to improve road infrastructure in the city.
