The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee observed the first death anniversary of veteran Communist leader and former CPI(M) General Secretary, Comrade Sitaram Yechury, with a remembrance meeting at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali.

Speaking on the occasion, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI(M) A&N State Organising Committee, highlighted Yechury’s pivotal role in strengthening the party and his uncompromising struggle against communal forces. He recalled that Com. Sitaram devoted his entire life to the cause of the people, especially the working class.

Senior leader P. Banerjee reflected on the global rise of socialist countries during the 1970s and 1980s and its influence on young leaders like Yechury. B. Chandrachoodan, State Secretariat Member, urged party cadres to emulate Yechury’s life and commitment, especially at a time when communal forces are attempting to divide the nation.

Presiding over the meeting, D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member, described Yechury as a true Communist who relentlessly opposed communalism and authoritarianism. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by SP Kalairajan, SOC Member.
