Communist Party of India (Marxist) has unveiled its manifesto dedicated to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, outlining specific commitments tailored to the region’s unique needs. A & N Island’s manifesto is in addition to the party’s All India Manifesto for the 18th Lok Sabha.
Mr. D Ayyappan, previously announced as the CPIM candidate for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, remains firmly positioned as a contender in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Having already filed his nomination, Ayyappan is among the 12 contesting candidates vying for victory in ANIPC.
The CPIM manifesto for the A & N Islands encapsulates a series of pledges aimed at fostering development and addressing pertinent issues within the archipelago. Among the key endeavours outlined in the manifesto are:
- Promoting, protecting and preserving of the islands’ unique ethos and social fabric of “unity and amity in diversity”.
- Establishment of Legislative Assembly on the Puducherry model for A & N Islands.
- Securing of separate Lok Sabha seat for the Nicobars District to be exclusively reserved for the Nicobari tribals.
- Stop influx of population to A & N Islands.
- 100% job to local youth of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in Group B (Non-Gazetted) and Group C.
- Formulation of schemes by which educated youth could get job/ self employment/ stipendiary employment.
- Unemployment Allowance for unemployed local youth.
- Strengthening of Public Distribution System.
- Diversion of deemed forest area for developmental work in the islands.
- Increase of Old Age Pension, Widow Pension, Disabled Pension, etc. & other welfare measures for these categories of people.
- Revival of Red Oil Palm Plantation in Little Andaman to generate job for youth.
- Planning and implementation of schemes to encourage farmers.
- Procurement of de-husked coconuts directly from farmers.
- Removal of GST on Arecanut produced in the islands.
- Establishment of fisheries-based industries.
- Upgrading and Augmenting Health Care Services in the islands.
- Establishment of Degree Colleges in Car Nicobar and Diglipur.
- Planning and implementation of schemes for supply of sufficient drinking water to Port Blair town and rural South Andaman.
- Grant of subsidy on air fare as has been done in North Eastern Region.
- Construction of bridge between Chatham and Bambooflat.
- To strive for declaring all the post-1942 settlers as OBCs.
- Establishment of Ship Repairing Yard at Port Blair.
- Exploration of natural gas and oil in Andaman sea.
- Regularisation of all encroachments on government land.
- House site to all landless islanders including government employees and retired government employees.
- Acquisition of more suitable ships for inter-island and island-mainland services including cargo ships.
- Operationalisation of UDAN Scheme (Regional connectivity) in A & N Islands.
- Upgradation of pay of all eligible categories of employees including LGCs and HGCs.
- Regularisation of the services of all daily rated mazdoors, contract and outsourced employees.
- To end corruption at all levels in the Administration.
- Revival of all deemed abolished posts in the A & N Administration.
- Creation of a Township anywhere in North & Middle Andaman District, with International Airport, Super-specialty hospital, international standard school, International Stadium, etc.
- To have a re-look into the imposition of Deemed University in the islands.
