The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, marked World Disability Day with a programme focused on early intervention, inclusive growth, and skill development for persons with disabilities. The event was supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Welcoming the gathering, CRC Director Ms. Sumita emphasized the organisation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rehabilitation services across the Islands and promote inclusivity.
Dr. Sachin Shinde, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health & Persons with Disability Planning Department, and Mr. Parvesh Ranjan Jha, Secretary, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, attended the programme as Chief Guests.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Shinde reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to creating a supportive ecosystem for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). He noted that disabilities may result from various causes, underlining the need for strong healthcare services and social support systems to facilitate early detection and reduce long-term challenges.
Highlighting the importance of early skill-building, Dr. Shinde commended CRC’s efforts in offering training modules and interventions designed to help children with special needs become self-reliant and capable contributors to society.
Mr. Parvesh Ranjan Jha also appreciated CRC’s initiatives and called for continued coordination among stakeholders to further strengthen empowerment through training, education, and community support.
