Shri. Chetan Sanghi, Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration has issued orders restricting the timings of bursting firecrackers to curb air pollution in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The residents will be able to burst firecrackers in the Islands from 8:00 Pm to 10:00 Pm on Diwali and Guruparb, 6:00 Am to 8:00 Am on Chatt and 11:55 Pm to 12:30 Am on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
These orders signed on 13th of November 2020 came into force from the same day and will remain in force until and unless new orders are issued on the subject.
The District Magistrate and Superintendents of Police have been instructed to take all measures and necessary action to ensure the compliance of the orders. Further it has been further informed that the violation of the order will invite penal action under Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 besides legal action under Section 188 of the IPC and other provisions as applicable.
