As part of its ongoing series of events promoting fitness and sustainable living, the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs and the Education Department, in collaboration with the Department of Information, Publicity & Tourism, organized a Cycling Tour in Sri Vijaya Puram on November 9, 2025, themed ‘#Explore. Experience. Enjoy’.

The event was held under the Fit India Movement and Clean & Green Islands Campaign to encourage eco-friendly tourism and active lifestyles among the islanders. Ms. Tripti Kalhans, IAS (P), Assistant Commissioner (Settlement), flagged off the tour from the precincts of the National Memorial Cellular Jail as the chief guest. In her brief address, she lauded the initiative and described cycling as one of the most effective and accessible ways to promote both fitness and sustainability.

A large number of participants, including students, youth, and cycling enthusiasts, took part in the event. The cyclists pedalled through scenic and prominent landmarks of Sri Vijaya Puram — starting from the National Memorial Cellular Jail and passing through the Water Sports Complex, Dignabad Fish Market, Marine Dockyard, Megapode Chowk, and PS Chatham — before concluding at Netaji Stadium. The event combined recreation, environmental awareness, and community spirit, highlighting the importance of fitness and sustainable transport in the islands’ development vision.
