Balram Singh a resident of Permanent Tsunami Shelter 17(A), Shastri Nagar, Campbell Bay submitted a letter requesting to remove some dangerous trees from the surroundings of his house on 13/08/2018 to the Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay. Copy of the letter was also later given to the Divisional Forest Officer, Campbell Bay.
It’s been almost three years since the request was made and till date the trees have not been removed. One dangerous tree fell a few days ago near his house due to the high speed of winds. The family was lucky as the tree did not fall on their house.
Another dangerous tree still stands near his house with very minimum root support. There is a huge risk of the tree falling on the house of Mr. Balram Singh due the inclement weather.
Recently a 17 year old resident of Chouldari passed away after a tree fell on his house due to the inclement weather caused by cyclone Yaas. The incident has brought to light the importance of removing dangerous trees from the vicinity of homes and residential areas.
It is very important to act swiftly on the complaints of dangerous trees to reduce any risk to the lives and property of the residents.
