As part of the ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore’ initiative, the Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, Ms. Nandini Maharaj, IAS, visited Rangat Tehsil on March 20, 2025. During her visit, she engaged with PRI members and local residents, addressing key concerns and ensuring prompt resolution of long-pending issues.

In a significant move, Ms. Maharaj handed over subdivision orders for four cases and brought long-awaited relief to a 92-year-old settler, Mr. Pulin Behari Dey, by rectifying a decades-old error in land records.

Mr. Dey, a Bengali settler who arrived in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands under the Government Resettlement Scheme of 1954, had been grappling with a clerical error in the Record of Rights (RoR) that had persisted for years. Due to this error, his name was incorrectly recorded in the revenue records, preventing him from transferring his land to his family. Despite numerous attempts to rectify the mistake, the issue remained unresolved for decades.

Recognising the legal and emotional distress Mr. Dey endured, Ms. Maharaj personally reviewed the case and ensured the correction was carried out swiftly. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Mr. Dey expressed heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate and timely intervention.

During her visit, Ms. Maharaj also inspected several ongoing development projects in Rangat, accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner, Middle Andaman, and the Executive Engineer, APWD, Rangat. She reviewed the construction progress of the upcoming Women’s Hostel and assessed the facilities at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Rangat. While interacting with doctors and medical staff at the CHC, she discussed ongoing challenges and explored ways to enhance healthcare services for the public.

Reaffirming her commitment to responsive and efficient governance, Ms. Maharaj emphasized the importance of timely resolution of long-pending issues. Her proactive approach, backed by the District Administration, underscores the Administration’s dedication to improving public services and addressing land and development concerns without unnecessary delays.

The ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore’ initiative continues to bridge the gap between the Administration and the people, ensuring that citizen grievances are heard and resolved effectively. (Story Based on PR)
