In an effort to promote backyard poultry farming and enhance livelihood opportunities, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) distributed 363 chicks, ducklings, and quails to 16 farmers in Rampur Panchayat, Mayabunder, on November 8.

The distribution comprised hardy and resilient poultry breeds suited to local climatic conditions, enabling farmers to diversify their livestock and improve nutritional security. The initiative aims to boost egg and meat production at the household level, contributing both to income generation and food availability within rural communities.

Beneficiary farmers were also briefed on essential rearing practices, including vaccination schedules, proper feeding, and biosecurity measures, to ensure healthy and sustainable poultry management.

Through such initiatives, the Department of AH&VS continues to empower local farmers and strengthen the foundation of sustainable animal husbandry in the Islands. The enthusiastic participation of the beneficiaries reflected their commitment to adopting improved livestock practices for a more resilient rural economy.
