The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A & N Administration distributed a total of 152 Vanaraja chicks, 114 ducklings, and 58 quails from the Composite Livestock Farm (CLF), Basantipur, to 16 beneficiaries of Bakultala Panchayat on October 24. The initiative aimed to promote backyard poultry farming by providing hardy and high-yielding breeds well-suited to the island’s climatic conditions.
During the distribution programme, veterinary staff offered detailed guidance to beneficiaries on vaccination schedules, feeding practices, and biosecurity measures to ensure healthy rearing and prevent disease outbreaks. Beneficiaries were also advised to promptly report any cases of mortality to local veterinary officials to help monitor flock health and assess the programme’s effectiveness.
The initiative is part of AH&VS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and enhance household income through sustainable livestock-based activities.
