In a significant move to control the stray animal population and promote responsible pet ownership, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services organized a two-day Sterilization Camp at the Veterinary Dispensary at Swaraj Dweep on May 24 and 25, 2024.
A dedicated team of Senior Veterinary Officers and support staff conducted 27 Animal Birth Control (ABC) operations during the camp. The procedures included sterilisation of 19 dogs and 8 cats. This initiative is expected to help reduce the number of stray animals in the area, mitigating issues such as overpopulation, the spread of diseases, and aggression among animals.
Beyond the surgical procedures, the camp served as an educational platform for pet owners. Attendees received valuable information on post-operative care and the numerous benefits of sterilisation. This educational aspect aims to encourage more responsible pet ownership within the community.
The Department’s commitment to animal welfare was clearly demonstrated through this event, addressing both the immediate need for population control and the long-term goal of enhancing community awareness regarding pet care.
The success of the sterilisation camp underscores the ongoing efforts of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services to improve animal welfare standards and ensure a healthier environment for both animals and residents of Swaraj Dweep.
