Department of Fisheries, in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Cochin, is set to host a three-day training program on ‘Marine Ornamental Fish Breeding.’ The program will take place from July 2 to 4, 2024, and is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in hatchery technology, breeding, seed production, and rearing of common marine ornamental fishes.
The training will be conducted through a series of classroom lectures and practical sessions, offering a unique opportunity for 25 selected participants from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The aim is to empower budding entrepreneurs from the islands to start ventures in Marine Ornamental Fish Production and Marketing. Upon successful completion of the program, the Department will assist the trainees in launching projects under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
Experts in Marine Ornamental Fish Breeding Research from ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi will lead the sessions, ensuring that participants gain valuable insights and skills over the course of the three-day program.
The Department of Fisheries has invited applications from interested fishers, fish farmers, self-help groups (SHGs), entrepreneurs, tribals, and unemployed youths of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The application process requires the completion of a prescribed format, which can be obtained from the nearest Zonal Fisheries Offices or Fisheries Sub-Stations. The filled applications must be submitted to the nearest Fisheries Offices by June 20, 2024.
