The purpose of this tour is to familiarize participants from the Islands with the latest and innovative technological advancements in the mainland fishing industry.

The study tour will be tailored to meet the needs of different groups. Freshwater Fish Farmers will have the opportunity to visit Odisha, while Marine Fishers and Tribals will explore Kerala. The Department of Fisheries will bear the expenses for boarding, lodging, and travel during the study tour.

Applicants between the ages of 18 and 45 years are eligible to apply. They are required to submit their applications, along with four recent passport-size photographs, a copy of their local certificate (attested by the Tehsildar) or Islander ID Card or Aadhaar Card, a copy of their fishing license or Fisher ID Card for the past five years (for Marine Fishers), or the latest copy of land records in the name of the applicant or their parents (for freshwater fish farmers). The applications must also include recommendations from the Pradhan Gram Panchayats or Tribal Councils, as well as the due recommendations of respective Area Fishery Officers. The deadline for submitting applications is June 30, 2023.

Prescribed application forms and eligibility conditions can be obtained from the respective Area Fishery Officer, Fisheries Sub-Stations, and Fisheries Zonal Offices. It is essential to note that incomplete applications or those received after the due date will not be considered.

This initiative by the Department of Fisheries aims to empower Fishers, Fish Farmers, and Tribals by providing them with exposure to the latest technological developments in the fishing industry. The study tour to Odisha and Kerala will offer valuable insights and knowledge, ultimately contributing to the growth and sustainability of the fishing communities in the Islands.
