The Department of Posts is set to organize the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Competition for Young People on March 24, 2025. The event will take place at the Sri Vijaya Puram Centre, inviting children aged 9 to 15 years (as of March 31, 2025) to participate.
This year’s theme, “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you,” aims to inspire young minds to express their thoughts on environmental conservation. The letter must be composed in English or any regional language listed in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India and should not exceed 800 words.
The competition will run for an hour, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on March 24, 2025 (Monday). The venue details will be specified in the hall permit issued to participants.
Winners at both the Circle Level and National Level will receive cash prizes and certificates:
Circle Level Awards:
- First Prize: ₹25,000 and a certificate
- Second Prize: ₹10,000 and a certificate
- Third Prize: ₹5,000 and a certificate
National Level Awards:
- First Prize: ₹50,000 and a certificate
- Second Prize: ₹25,000 and a certificate
- Third Prize: ₹10,000 and a certificate
The best national entry will represent India at the international level competition conducted by the UPU. International winners will receive gold, silver, or bronze medals and may also be eligible for additional prizes. The gold medalist may be invited to visit the UPU headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, or receive an alternative prize at the discretion of the UPU.
Interested candidates must apply through the Centre In-Charge, Deputy Superintendent of Post Offices, O/o the Postmaster General, A & N Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram – 744101. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2025.
Applicants must submit a filled-out application form along with three passport-size photographs and a photocopy of an age-proof document (in duplicate). The application format can be obtained from the Office of the Postmaster General, A & N Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram – 744101, or from respective schools.
One copy of the application form should be retained as a hall ticket, which must be presented on the competition day. Participants are required to carry original Aadhaar or School ID for verification.
Competition Day Rules:
– Laptops, mobile phones, books, or other reference materials will not be allowed inside the venue.
– Answer sheets will be provided by the Department of Posts, but participants must bring their own pens and pencils.
