In a significant move to streamline mail operations and improve delivery efficiency, the Department of Posts has announced the integration of its sorting infrastructure for Registered Post and Speed Post items. The unified processing system aims to optimize logistical resources, reduce transit delays, and strengthen connectivity across the postal network.

Both Registered Post and Speed Post are accountable services, with tracking maintained at every stage of transmission. While Registered Post is traditionally delivered only to the addressee or an authorized representative, Speed Post is delivered to any person present at the specified address. Under the revised framework, this distinction will be preserved, but with added benefits for users of Speed Post.

Going forward, Speed Post Letters and Speed Post Parcels will continue to follow address-specific delivery. However, Speed Post items booked with registration will now follow the Registered Post protocol, ensuring delivery exclusively to the addressee or their authorized representative.

Customers using Speed Post with registration will continue to enjoy all the existing premium features of Speed Post, including:

• End-to-end online tracking

• Real-time delivery updates

• OTP-based secure delivery

• Cash on Delivery (COD) services

• Credit facilities

• Volume-based discounts

• National Account Facility for corporate clients

This integration is part of the Government of India’s broader initiative to modernize and rationalize the country’s postal services, ensuring that they remain relevant, efficient, and aligned with changing customer needs.
