The Department of Posts has introduced a new insurance scheme, Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana (ASSY), aimed at providing affordable accidental insurance to labourers (Shramiks) across India. The scheme offers significant financial protection with low yearly premiums, making it accessible to workers in various sectors.
Under ASSY, Shramiks can choose between two insurance plans based on their coverage needs:
– A yearly premium of ₹289 for a sum assured of ₹5 lakh.
– A yearly premium of ₹499 for a sum assured of ₹10 lakh.
This initiative is designed to provide peace of mind to workers by offering substantial financial support in case of accidental claims, ensuring their families are safeguarded from unforeseen events.
Non-labourers are also eligible for similar insurance coverage under a separate plan. For non-Shramik individuals, an accidental insurance policy is available with a yearly premium of ₹557, providing financial security in case of accidental injury or death.
