Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, recently convened a meeting with representatives from the Karen Community and the Karen Youth Club to discuss a range of developmental and cultural initiatives.
The representatives highlighted the need for enhanced sports infrastructure, including the development of playgrounds and the provision of sports kits under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These improvements aim to foster youth engagement and promote physical activity within the community.
In addition to sports infrastructure, the Karen representatives outlined their requirements for the upcoming Karen Festival in 2025, which will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Karen community’s presence in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The festival is expected to be a significant cultural event, commemorating the rich history and contributions of the Karen people to the region.
Responding to these requests, Deputy Commissioner Meena assured the community of comprehensive support. This includes the provision of skill development training, empowerment programs for women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), career guidance for competitive exams, and professional sports training for the youth.
Mr. Meena’s engagement with the Karen Community underscores the administration’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage and enhancing opportunities for youth development in North and Middle Andaman. The collaborative efforts are anticipated to bring about substantial benefits for the community, ensuring their active participation in the region’s socio-economic progress.
