Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Nicobars), visited the Dairy-cum-Fodder Unit managed by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) in Car Nicobar on Monday, highlighting sustainable agricultural practices and community development initiatives in the region.
During the visit, Mr. Kale inspected the unit’s facilities, including a portable biogas plant, and commended the management for promoting eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices. He suggested increasing the number of cows at the unit to boost milk production, thereby improving nutritional access for the local community. While reviewing the operational incubator, the Deputy Commissioner recommended expanding its activities to support startups and small businesses, fostering economic growth in Car Nicobar.
As part of the visit, Mr. Kale planted fodder and fruit-bearing saplings at the dairy unit in the presence of school children and teachers, encouraging environmental awareness and agricultural development. Earlier, he distributed table eggs to secondary and senior secondary school students, with members of the Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, joining the initiative to support child nutrition.
