In response to the devastating fire accident that ravaged the Billiground Market under Mayabunder Tehsil on April 30, 2024, the Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman District has swiftly taken action to provide financial assistance to those affected.
Under the A&N Islands Scheme for providing Financial Assistance to victims of accidents (who are not covered under the prevailing SDRF/NDRF norms approved by the Govt. of India) prescribed by the A&N Administration vide Gazette Notification No. 143/2015/F.No. 8-1/2015-R&R dated 12th August 2015 and in the exercise of the power conferred vide A&N Administration’s Order No. 2050 dated 01st July 2015, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman District, sanctioned an expenditure totalling Rs 4,80,000/- to 16 victims whose small business enterprises suffered damage in the blaze.
This allocation of funds aims to offer immediate relief and support to individuals and businesses grappling with the aftermath of the tragic incident. The sanctioned ex-gratia will be credited directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
The decision to extend financial aid underscores the Administration’s unwavering commitment to assist those in need during times of crisis. Deputy Commissioner highlighted that every effort is being made to ensure the efficient and effective disbursement of the allocated funds, with the primary goal of alleviating the suffering of the affected individuals and families.
