Port Blair, 04 October 2023

In accordance with the stipulations outlined in Section 135C of the Representation of the People Act 1951, the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman District has issued a directive to observe specific days as “Dry Days” in preparation for the forthcoming General Elections for members of the Netaji Nagar and Hut Bay Gram Panchayats Constituencies within the Little Andaman Tehsil. Additionally, this directive extends to the Bye-Election for five Gram Panchayat Members in Neil Kendra (Shaheed Dweep) under the Port Blair Tehsil.

The Deputy Commissioner has designated the following days for the observance of “Dry Days”:

October 15, 2023 (Sunday): Date of the Poll

October 17, 2023 (Tuesday): Date of the Counting

During these designated “Dry Days,” the sale or service of alcoholic beverages will be strictly prohibited in the entire area encompassing Gram Panchayat Hutbay and all Gram Panchayats of Neil Kendra (Shaheed Dweep).

This directive applies to various entities holding IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) vending licenses, including ANIIDCO, CSD Canteens, all Defence Canteens, Police Mess facilities, and all private bar licensees operating within the aforementioned Panchayats.

The imposition of “Dry Days” is a common practice during elections to maintain public order and ensure the peaceful conduct of the electoral process. The Deputy Commissioner’s order serves as a reminder to all concerned establishments and individuals within the specified areas to comply with the alcohol sales ban during the specified election-related dates.

Failure to adhere to these restrictions may result in legal action.
