In a significant development for law enforcement in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastava, IPS, has officially taken charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP). With a remarkable career spanning over 27 years, Mr. Srivastava brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
Mr. Srivastava, belonging to the esteemed 1995 batch of the Indian Police Service, has served in various key positions across the country. His previous assignments include postings in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Delhi, and Mizoram. Additionally, he has contributed to national security during his tenure at the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and served as Executive Director (Security) at ONGC.
Recognised for his exceptional service and dedication, Mr. Srivastava has been the recipient of several prestigious honours. Notably, he has been bestowed with the Police Medal for ‘Meritorious Service,’ the President’s Police Medal for ‘Distinguished Service,’ the Internal Security Medal, the Bar to Police Special Duty Medal, as well as the State Award of Arunachal Pradesh for ‘Meritorious Service’ and the Utkrisht Seva Padak.
Following his official appointment, a ceremonial Guard of Honour was organised at the Police Headquarters to warmly welcome the newly appointed DGP. Mr. Srivastava subsequently held a meeting with senior police officers, fostering a collaborative atmosphere and setting the stage for effective coordination and strategic initiatives.
In honour of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastava’s assumption of office, a grand ceremonial welcome parade is scheduled to take place on June 24, 2023, at the Parade Ground in Police Lines, Port Blair. This parade will not only showcase the island’s rich traditions but also serve as a platform to express gratitude and extend best wishes to the newly appointed DGP.
With Mr. Srivastava’s vast experience, commendable track record, and commitment to upholding the law, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands can look forward to a period of enhanced safety, security, and effective policing under his leadership.
