On March 14th, 2024, Mr. Devesh Chandra Shrivastva, IPS, Director General of Police of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, led a delegation of senior officials on a three-day field tour across the Nancowry group of Islands in the Nicobar District. The tour aimed at assessing police infrastructure, enhancing coordination with other security agencies, and addressing staff concerns to bolster public safety and security.
Accompanying Mr. Shrivastva were Mr. Ajay Krishan Sharma, IPS, DIGP Headquarters, Ms. Varsha Sharma, IPS, DIGP Law & Order, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District, Mr. Sunny Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District, and Mr. Sandeep Lamba, DANIPS, Dy.SP Fire.
The delegation commenced their tour with a visit to Katchal on March 14th, where they inspected police infrastructure including the Police Station, Police Radio Station, and Fire Station. They engaged in a Sampark Sabha with staff to address concerns, receiving valuable feedback and suggestions which were promptly acted upon to improve basic infrastructure at PS Katchal.
On March 15th, the delegation visited PS Nancowrie, issuing directions to utilize the infrastructure of the Marine Police Operations Centre (MPOC) in Nancowrie more effectively. A Sampark Sabha was held to address staff grievances and boost morale.
Subsequently, the delegation visited LOP Tillangchong with assistance from the Indian Coast Guard, DGP appreciated the ongoing and completed works by the troops. A Sampark Sabha was held at Tillangchong as well, followed by a volleyball match with the troops and a shared lunch.
In Pillpillow village of Nancowrie Island, the DGP inaugurated a state-of-the-art Police Radio Repeater Station, enhancing communication capabilities in remote areas.
The tour concluded with an inspection of PS Teressa and the local Fire Station, with directives issued to address staff accommodation concerns comprehensively. Emphasis was placed on utilizing police resources efficiently for enhanced effectiveness.
Throughout the tour, the delegation interacted with local captains and respectables to understand public grievances. The visit underscored the unwavering dedication of the A&N Police force to uphold safety and security, with particular emphasis on ensuring seamless conduct of Lok Sabha Elections.
The inspection and engagement tour highlighted the commitment of the A&N Police to serve and protect the community, fostering cooperation among various agencies for the greater good.
