An initiative aimed at bolstering safety measures and enriching tourist experiences took centre stage as a state-of-the-art Tourist Police Kiosk was unveiled on December 18, 2023, at the historic Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The inauguration ceremony, graced by the esteemed presence of the Director General of Police (DGP), underscored the island authorities’ dedication to ensuring both safety and a warm reception for visitors.
The Tourist Police Kiosk stands as a pioneering effort tailored to aid and guide tourists, particularly those exploring the significant historical site of Cellular Jail. It symbolises a fresh approach in linking law enforcement with the public, fostering positive interactions, and extending essential support to visitors.
During the inauguration, the DGP emphasised the dual potential of the kiosk, not only as a vital safety enhancement but also as a catalyst for tourism in the region. Its strategic placement at Cellular Jail holds profound significance, offering a guiding hand to those delving into the Islands’ historical and cultural legacy.
Acknowledging the collaborative effort, the partnership between the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) and law enforcement was recognised as pivotal in materializing this initiative. The PBMC Chairperson and PBMC Secretary were lauded for their instrumental support in providing the necessary space for the kiosk, highlighting the significance of inter-agency cooperation in advancing tourism-oriented projects.
The Tourist Police Kiosk boasts a team of knowledgeable police personnel poised to assist visitors with information, guidance, and any essential aid they might require during their stay. The ultimate goal is to craft a seamless and memorable experience for tourists, ensuring their visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands remains safe and enriching.
