Sterilisation services play a crucial role in family planning initiatives, ensuring reproductive health choices for individuals. Recognising this, the Directorate of Health Services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands consistently endeavours to offer Laparoscopic sterilisation services across various regions.

In continuation of these efforts, a Fixed Day Family Planning Laparoscopic Sterilisation Service was organised by the Directorate of Health Services in collaboration with the Union Territory Health Mission at Ayushman Arogya Mandir on Swaraj Dweep from May 6 to May 9, 2024.

Heading the sterilisation team were esteemed medical professionals including Dr. M.K Saha, Professor (O&G) at ANIIMS, and Dr. Narayanan Rajaram, Grade-I Anesthetist (HOD) at GBPH, Port Blair, along with a dedicated support staff.

During the four-day service period, a total of 76 women availed themselves of the sterilisation service provided by the health team. The success of the fixed day sterilisation initiative owes much to the unwavering commitment and tireless efforts of the Medical Officer in charge and the staff at Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Swaraj Dweep.

This endeavour underscores the ongoing commitment of the Directorate of Health Services to ensuring accessible and comprehensive reproductive health services for the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, contributing significantly to the overall well-being of the community.
