In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare accessibility in remote regions, the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, recently inaugurated a Dialysis Unit at the Health & Wellness Center in Ramakrishnapur, Little Andaman. The inauguration took place virtually and was attended by Ms. Nandini Paliwal, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), along with other senior officials of the administration.
During the inauguration, Mr. Chandra emphasised the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, particularly in remote areas like Little Andaman. He praised the efforts of the team that established the Dialysis Unit and highlighted the crucial role played by members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in supporting healthcare initiatives at the grassroots level.
The establishment of this Dialysis Unit addresses a long-standing need of the residents of Little Andaman, who previously had to travel to Port Blair for hemodialysis treatment. The unit is equipped with three state-of-the-art hemodialysis machines and staffed with trained personnel to ensure quality care for patients.
The inauguration event at Ramakrishnapur was attended by Mr. S. Parmanathan, Pramukh of Little Andaman, local officials, healthcare staff, and representatives from the PRIs. The new facility is expected to significantly ease the burden on patients requiring regular dialysis and enhance the overall healthcare infrastructure on the island.
