Sri Vijaya Puram, 04 April 2025
Digital media organisations active in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands gathered at Flag Point in Sri Vijaya Puram on April 3, 2025, to pay tribute to their fellow journalist, Mr. Sahadev Dey, the founder of News Republic Andaman.
Mr. Sahadev Dey was brutally murdered in Diglipur, and his body was burned before the remains were disposed of in the creeks of Shibpur in an attempt to destroy evidence. He was killed on March 29, 2025, and after an extensive search and interrogation of suspects, police confirmed his murder on April 1, following confessions from those involved.
A fearless journalist committed to exposing injustice and illegal activities in Diglipur, Mr. Dey’s tragic death has sent shockwaves through society.
During the ceremony, digital media journalists gathered at Flag Point and observed two minutes of silence in his memory. Floral tributes were offered to his photograph, and journalists spoke about his contributions to the profession and the inherent dangers of journalism.
The gathering also served as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the risks journalists face in the pursuit of truth.
Journalists at the event demanded a free and fair investigation into Mr. Dey’s murder and called on law enforcement authorities to take the safety of journalists seriously.
