In a swift and decisive operation, Diglipur Police successfully apprehended a notorious criminal involved in a handbag snatching incident. The accused, Suraj Mazumder, also known as Gullu, was arrested on August 11, 2024, following an intensive manhunt.
The incident occurred near Radha Krishna Mandir in Diglipur, where a woman’s handbag was forcibly taken. Promptly responding to the complaint, the police registered an FIR under the relevant sections of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-2023. The Diglipur Police Station staff, under the supervision of Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, launched a large-scale operation to track down the culprit.
Intelligence inputs revealed that Mazumder, a well-known offender with a criminal history, had been evading police action by frequently moving between different jurisdictions after committing crimes. Despite his attempts to flee, the police were able to locate and apprehend him after an exhaustive search. The stolen handbag was recovered from his possession.
Mazumder was arrested following all the formal procedures outlined in the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita-2023. He was subsequently produced before the Hon’ble Court in Mayabunder, where he was remanded to judicial custody.
The entire operation was conducted under the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
