The Director of Education and Sports, Mr. Vikram Singh, visited Car Nicobar on Wednesday to inspect the ongoing Phase-I selection trials for the First Edition of the Khelo India Tribal Games at the SAI, STC Modern Sports Complex, Lapathy. The trials are being organised by the Department of Education and Sports and Youth Affairs in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.

During the visit, Mr. Singh reviewed the football selection trials and interacted with officials and representatives of State Sports Associations, eminent athletes, Physical Education Teachers (PETs), and participating sportspersons. He outlined the objectives and expectations of the teams being selected for the Khelo India Tribal Games, which are tentatively scheduled to be held in Chhattisgarh in February 2026.

The Director informed that the Tribal Games are being organised on a much larger scale this year on the mainland, with the Andaman & Nicobar Islands fielding teams in seven to eight sports disciplines, including football, hockey, athletics, weightlifting, archery, and swimming. He emphasised that the selection process is being carried out strictly on the basis of raw talent and merit to ensure that sportspersons from the Islands perform to their full potential and secure maximum medals for the Union Territory.

He further stated that while football selection trials are being conducted in Car Nicobar, archery and swimming events are being held in South Andaman, as a majority of participants for these disciplines belong to Little Andaman and Sri Vijaya Puram.

Mr. Singh said that teams will be selected across all major sports disciplines, including football, hockey, athletics, and weightlifting, for participation in the Khelo India Tribal Games. He urged all eligible youth to actively participate in the trials and encouraged them to motivate their peers to take part with enthusiasm, highlighting sports as a vital avenue for talent development and national-level exposure.
