Directorate of Industries Conducts Earthquake and Tsunami Mock Drill to Test Emergency Preparedness

In a proactive step toward enhancing disaster preparedness, the Directorate of Industries conducted a comprehensive mock drill simulating an earthquake and tsunami scenario at its office premises in Udyog Parisar, Middle Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, on Wednesday. The exercise was part of the Directorate’s second-quarter (2025–26) disaster management activities.

The drill aimed to assess the readiness and response capabilities of staff and associated emergency services in the event of a natural disaster. It began with a table-top exercise led by Mr. Mohd. Ishaque, Incident Commander and a senior official at the Directorate, who briefed participants on the objectives of the drill and outlined the roles of various stakeholders.

At 11:00 a.m., the simulation was set into motion with the sounding of an emergency alarm, indicating the onset of a mock earthquake. A distress call was immediately placed to the State Disaster Management Control Room, which promptly issued a tsunami warning and activated emergency response protocols.

The drill saw coordinated efforts among various departments and personnel stationed at Udyog Parisar. Evacuation procedures were executed efficiently, and emergency protocols were followed in a structured and timely manner, demonstrating a high level of preparedness.

After the completion of all response actions, an ‘All Clear’ message was communicated to the State Disaster Management Control Room, marking the successful conclusion of the exercise.

Officials noted that the initiative underscores the Directorate’s commitment to strengthening institutional readiness and fostering seamless inter-agency coordination for effective disaster response.
