The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has proposed a unique initiative to celebrate the rich culinary heritage of every district in India. The initiative, modeled after the One District One Cuisine (ODOC) concept, aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Vocal for Local campaign promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The objective of the initiative is to showcase and promote the distinctive dishes, ingredients, and traditional food specialties of each district, enhancing their recognition at national and global levels.

In this regard, the DPIIT has invited suggestions and inputs from the public and stakeholders in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Residents are encouraged to submit details of unique and indigenous cuisines, dishes, or traditional eatables specific to any district of the islands. Submissions should include a brief description of the dish, its historical and cultural background, and its significance in local traditions.

The following details should be provided for each submission:

  • Name of the cuisine/dish
  • District of origin
  • Description highlighting the uniqueness
  • Historical and cultural significance
  • Photographs of the dish

Entries can be submitted in person at the Directorate of Industries, A&N, Middle Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, or sent via email to dirindus@gmail.com. The last date for submission is February 14, 2025.For further information, interested individuals may contact the Directorate at 03192-232395.
