Directorate of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has initiated a comprehensive three-day induction training programme. This training, conducted under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), is designed for newly appointed and promoted Extension Officers, Panchayat Secretaries, and Village Level Workers/Gram Sevikas. The programme aims to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills to enhance their contributions to rural development and panchayat governance.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session chaired by Mr. Shiv Singh Meena, Director (RD/Panchayat). In his address, Mr. Meena underscored the importance of the training and urged participants to actively engage in each session. He noted that the sessions, meticulously designed by the State Panchayat Resource Centre (SPRC), are intended to provide a deep understanding of rural development schemes and the effective functioning of local self-governments. Mr. Meena also mentioned that a post-assessment would be conducted at the end of the three-day programme. He emphasised that the insights gained during the training would empower officials to successfully implement and oversee various rural development initiatives, thereby driving growth and development in rural communities.
Earlier, Mr. Mohammed Yunus M, EO/State Nodal Officer (RGSA), welcomed the participants. He stressed the importance of frontline officials possessing the requisite knowledge and being thoroughly aware of their specific roles and functions. He highlighted the commitment of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department to work closely with various stakeholders in villages for overall development and public welfare.
A video presentation on a model village was screened during the inaugural session, providing a visual example of successful rural development. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Gurjeet Kaur, Extension Officer.
This induction training programme marks a significant step towards building a more knowledgeable and efficient cadre of officials who will lead rural development initiatives and strengthen the governance of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
