The Directorate of Social Welfare, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, recently organised a heartwarming movie session at Anand Paradise Theatre for the residents of the Old Age Home in Ferrargunj.
This event marked the beginning of a series of regular programs aimed at enriching the lives of senior citizens, including outings to beaches, yoga sessions, and dinner programs, all with the valuable support of non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The initiative received an overwhelming response from the elderly residents, who cherished the opportunity to enjoy a movie on the big screen. Mr. Dalvir Singh, a senior citizen residing at Abhyudaya Complex, Ferrargunj, expressed his gratitude and excitement, requesting that such programs be organized regularly. Another resident, Mr. Kiran Roy, shared his delight, revealing that it was his first time experiencing a movie in a theatre setting.
Speaking on behalf of all the senior citizens present, Mr. Kiran Roy extended heartfelt thanks to the owner of Anand Paradise Theatre and the Directorate of Social Welfare for arranging the event and for their thoughtful initiative in organising such engaging activities for them.
The Social Welfare Department has been actively involved in improving the quality of life for the elderly population in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In addition to the Ferrargunj Old Age Home for males, the department also operates another facility for females at Attam Pahad.
This laudable initiative by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration showcases their commitment to nurturing a sense of community and happiness among the senior citizens, providing them with opportunities to socialise, enjoy entertainment, and engage in activities that bring joy to their lives. The future programs and outings planned by the Directorate of Social Welfare promise to continue making a positive impact on the lives of the elderly residents, fostering a sense of belonging and care within the community.
