In line with the Chief Secretary’s directive mandating quarterly mock drills across all departments, the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, conducted a comprehensive mock drill at the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) and the Port Management Board (PMB) on Friday. The exercise aimed to assess and enhance preparedness in responding to earthquake and tsunami scenarios.

The drill commenced at 11:00 AM, with active participation from officials and staff of both departments. Real-time earthquake and tsunami simulations were carried out to test response mechanisms, ensuring effective coordination with key emergency services, including the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC-S/A), Fire Services, Police, Electricity Department, NDRF, Transport, and Health Departments.

As part of the exercise, safe evacuation procedures were implemented, search and rescue operations were conducted, and first aid was administered to simulated casualties. Resource teams collaborated with DSS and PMB to ensure the seamless execution of emergency protocols.

The drill concluded at 12:00 PM with a debriefing session where Incident Commanders and observers lauded the efforts of the participants. They emphasized the significance of regular mock drills in identifying and addressing potential gaps in disaster preparedness.

Such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening the resilience of key departments, ensuring they remain equipped to handle real-life emergencies effectively.
