Distant Cautionary Signal-I has been hoisted at Port Blair port as authorities anticipate severe weather conditions along the Andaman and Nicobar coast. Squally weather, with gusty surface winds exceeding 45 kmph expected to lash the region.
The sea conditions are predicted to be rough to very rough, posing significant risks to marine activities. As a precautionary measure, fishermen have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into the sea until May 27 or until further notice.
Residents and those in need of more information or assistance are encouraged to contact the State Emergency Operation Centre via their helpline at 1070 or the District Emergency Operation Centre at 1077. For emergencies or assistance at sea, the Coast Guard’s Search and Rescue (SAR) Agency is available at their toll-free number, 1554.
The authorities urge the public to stay updated on weather conditions and follow safety advisories to mitigate risks during this period of adverse weather.
