An 8-Year-Old child passed away on 13th March 2023, after being hit by a heavy vehicle (truck) near Govt. Middle School, Brichgunj. The girl was a student of the same school and had reportedly just got off her father’s bike when the truck hit her.

Nicobar Times has accessed a letter written by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman referencing the loss of life of the minor and recommending to prohibit the plying of HGVs on the main route i.e. from Brichgunj Jn to Brichgunj Village Road. The letter also suggested an alternative route for HGVs i.e. from existing crusher hamlet at Brookshabad towards Corbyn Chowk via sea shore connecting PBMC dumping yard.

By evening a notification was issued by the District Administartion prohibiting the plying of Heavy Goods Vehicle on the main route i.e. from Brichgunj Jn to Brichgunj Village Road and notifying the alternate route for HGVs as suggested by SP (Traffic).
