District Administration Provides Financial Aid to Diglipur Flood Victims; MP Bishnu Pada Ray Hands Over Sanctioned Aid to Victims

The District Administration of North and Middle Andaman on 15th June 2024, disbursed financial assistance to victims of the heavy rain and flooding that struck the Diglipur Sub-Division on June 11, 2024. The aid, provided under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), was distributed during a ceremony at the Conference Hall, GPOA Building, Diglipur.

The event was graced by Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, as the chief guest, and Mr. Dilkush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, as the guest of honour. Other attendees included Mr. Aditya Kumar Asthana, Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur, PRI members, revenue officials, and flood victims from the Diglipur Sub-Division.

During the ceremony, the dignitaries, led by Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray and Mr. Dilkush Meena, distributed the sanctioned amount of Rs. 5,37,488 to 117 flood victims. In his address, Mr. Ray praised the District Administration for their swift action in providing financial relief to those affected by the disaster, highlighting the importance of prompt support in times of crisis.

Mr. Dilkush Meena detailed the steps taken by the administration during the disaster. He explained that the Emergency Operation Center was activated immediately, leading to the commencement of rescue operations in the flood-affected areas. Relief shelters were established, and victims were relocated to these shelters for their safety. A Damage Assessment Committee was then formed to survey the affected areas and assess the extent of the damage. Based on the committee’s recommendations, the financial assistance of Rs. 5,37,488 was disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the flood victims.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Aditya Kumar Asthana, Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur, who expressed gratitude to all involved for their efforts in ensuring the timely distribution of aid to the flood victims.
