The District Hospital (Phase–I) at Garacharma in South Andaman was inaugurated on January 3, 2026, marking a significant step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region. With the inauguration of the new facility, the existing Primary Health Centre at Garacharma has been upgraded to a District Hospital with a capacity of 35 beds, enabling the delivery of improved and expanded healthcare services to the public.
The hospital now offers a wide range of Health and Wellness services aimed at providing comprehensive medical care to residents. These include In-Patient Department (IPD) services with a labour ward, Out-Patient Department (OPD) services including Dental OPD, and 24×7 emergency services.
In addition, the facility provides Homoeopathy OPD, Antenatal Clinic (ANC) services, ENT OPD and indoor services by an ENT specialist, and a fully functional dressing room. The hospital is also equipped with an Eye Unit, diagnostic laboratory services, and a TB Unit with diagnostic facilities.
Radiology services, including X-ray facilities, have been made available at the hospital along with pharmacy services and a dental unit. The institution also offers yoga services as part of its wellness initiatives. Ambulance services equipped with oxygen cylinders are available to handle medical emergencies and patient transfers.
To further strengthen healthcare services, a 10-bedded Dialysis Unit is proposed to be established at the hospital. Once operational, the facility will provide dialysis treatment for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease, significantly improving access to renal care for residents of South Andaman.
Authorities have also stated that the hospital infrastructure will be further expanded with the completion of the Phase–II building. The upcoming expansion is expected to enable the hospital to provide comprehensive secondary healthcare services to the general public.
Residents of Garacharma and adjoining villages have been encouraged to make use of the Health and Wellness facilities now available at the District Hospital, Garacharma, and benefit from the enhanced medical services in the area.
