District Industries Centre, Department of Industries, A&N Administration, organized a series of Awareness-cum-Motivational Programmes on the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and other government-sponsored schemes. These events took place in various pockets of the Nancowry group of Islands.
In collaboration with local banks, the Tribal Council, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), the Fisheries Department, and other related departments, the programmes aimed to inform tribal participants about the PMEGP and other incentive-oriented schemes.
The events saw enthusiastic participation from unemployed individuals and youth from the respective areas. The programmes focused on motivating participants to set up self-employment ventures in the manufacturing, service, and business sectors by taking advantage of opportunities under the PMEGP scheme. Interactive sessions provided guidance on the PMEGP application process, and filled-in applications were collected for online verification and completion before being forwarded to scheduled banks.
A total of 12 prospective entrepreneurs from Katchal, Champin, Teressa, and Kamorta Islands were selected for financial assistance under the PMEGP scheme. These individuals will undertake various self-employment activities with the support provided.
This initiative is a significant step towards boosting self-employment and entrepreneurship among the tribal population of the Nancowry group of Islands.
