A district-wide Tuberculosis (TB) clinic was recently organized across all Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), Sub-Centres (SCs), Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs), and the District Hospital in Nicobar District. During the initiative, all TB patients under treatment were examined by Medical Officers for weight gain, treatment progress, and potential side effects.

The special drive, conducted under the supervision of District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Anwar Moosa, Chief Medical Officer, covered 44 patients currently undergoing treatment in the district.

At Car Nicobar, medical teams clinically examined patients at every AAM and SC. Dr. Sylvister, MO-TC, and Mr. Loknath S., PMDT Coordinator under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), reviewed treatment cards, monitored patient progress, and provided counselling on treatment adherence to ensure complete recovery and support the goal of a TB-free district.

Patients were also asked about the receipt of their monthly Poshan Basket from Nikshay Mitras and were sensitised on the role of nutrition in faster recovery. They were further guided on utilising financial assistance provided under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana to purchase healthy and nutritious food during treatment.

Counselling sessions emphasised the importance of lifestyle discipline, particularly advising patients to strictly avoid alcohol consumption, which can adversely affect treatment outcomes.

Authorities have announced that such TB clinics will continue to be held on the 24th of every month across all health facilities in Nicobar District. Regular monitoring is expected to improve treatment outcomes and accelerate efforts towards achieving the national vision of TB Mukt Bharat. (Story Based on PR)
