DLSA & PRAYAS Juvenile Aid Center Conducts Legal Awareness Programme at Bathu Basti

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with PRAYAS Juvenile Aid Center, organised a Legal Awareness Programme at Ward No. 19, Bathu Basti, on Friday to sensitise residents on key legal provisions concerning the protection of children and women.

The programme was attended by Mr. Niyaz Alam, Additional District Judge, Port Blair; Mr. Jayanta Mukherjee, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 2nd Court, Port Blair; and Mr. Anupam Sircar, Additional Judicial Magistrate First Class, Port Blair.

Addressing the gathering, the judicial officers highlighted the salient provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and discussed issues related to child labour, its eradication, and the prohibition of child marriage. They also elaborated on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, underscoring the importance of creating safe and supportive environments for women and children.

The speakers stressed the need for collective community action to safeguard the rights, dignity and well-being of vulnerable sections of society. The awareness camp witnessed active participation from local residents, who engaged with the resource persons and sought clarifications on various legal issues.

The DLSA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening access to justice and promoting legal literacy across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through such outreach initiatives.
