DLSA South Andaman Holds Legal Awareness Programme on Workplace Sexual Harassment

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), South Andaman, organized a Legal Awareness Programme on Thursday at the District Court Complex, Port Blair, focusing on the theme “Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace.” The sensitization session was primarily attended by judicial employees and practicing advocates from the District Court.

The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Sudhir Kumar, District Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, A&N Islands, along with Hon’ble Mr. Neyaz Alam, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr. Samrat Roy, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, and Mr. Pabitra Sen, Joint Civil Judge (Senior Division), Port Blair.

Also in attendance were Mr. Rakesh Pal Gobind, Secretary of the A&N Bar Association, Ms. Tasneem Abid, Special Public Prosecutor (POCSO), and Advocate Ms. Alima Bibi.

Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Mr. Sudhir Kumar spoke in detail about the legal framework surrounding workplace sexual harassment. He explained the rights of women employees, procedures for lodging complaints, and the role of the Internal Complaints Committee as per legal provisions. The session aimed to promote a deeper understanding of workplace rights and to encourage women to come forward without fear in case of any misconduct.

The DLSA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights of women and fostering a safe and respectful work environment through ongoing awareness and legal literacy initiatives.
