The National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI), has launched the Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey (DTES) under the 80th Round of the National Sample Survey (NSS). The survey will be conducted across the country, including the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, during the period July 2025 to June 2026.

In the Islands, the survey is being carried out by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics in collaboration with the National Sample Survey Office, Field Operation Division, Lamba Line, Sri Vijaya Puram. The exercise will cover selected sample units and aims to collect comprehensive data on household expenditure related to domestic tourism.

The survey will record information on expenditure incurred during domestic overnight trips, along with details on households, visitors, and trip characteristics. The findings will serve as a key input for preparing the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) by the Ministry of Tourism, which is vital for policy planning and development in the tourism sector.

Authorities have appealed to the general public to extend full cooperation to enumerators and supervisors during the data collection process. Officials have assured that all information provided will remain strictly confidential.

Such surveys, officials added, play a crucial role in shaping effective development strategies and policies that benefit the nation at large. (Story Based on PR)
