Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Scientist-F at the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) and Officer-in-Charge of the Atal Centre for Ocean Science and Technology for Islands (ACOSTI), Sri Vijaya Puram, has been conferred with the prestigious K Chidambaram Memorial Award for 2024 in recognition of his exemplary contributions to marine and environmental sciences.
The award was presented during a formal ceremony held on July 12 at the Commissionerate of Fisheries, Chennai, by the Fisheries Technocrats Forum, Chennai. The award honours individuals who have made outstanding contributions in fisheries, aquaculture, marine science, and allied disciplines.
Dr. Jha was selected for his impactful work in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Geographical Information System (GIS), and Hydrological Studies, particularly focused on India’s mainland coast and its oceanic islands. He is among four eminent scientists and academicians chosen for the 2024 award cycle.
The K Chidambaram Memorial Award, named after the late K Chidambaram—who held key positions in the Fisheries Departments of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and the Union Government—celebrates innovation, excellence, and leadership in marine-related fields.
Dr. Jha’s recognition underscores his longstanding commitment to advancing ocean science and sustainable coastal development, especially in ecologically sensitive island ecosystems.
