Directorate of Fisheries, Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration, has unveiled a Draft Policy on the “Comprehensive Development of Fisheries in A&N Islands.” This initiative reflects the Administration’s commitment to the sustainable utilisation of marine fisheries resources and the promotion of emerging sectors such as mariculture, coastal aquaculture, and freshwater aquaculture.
The Draft Policy encompasses various developmental aspects, including Marine Fisheries, Fishing Technology, Post-Harvest Handling and Processing, Aquaculture, Capacity Building, and Fisheries Management.
To ensure inclusivity and gather diverse perspectives, the policy has been placed in the public domain for comments and suggestions from the general public, fisheries stakeholders, research institutes, and departments within the A&N Administration.
The document is accessible on the official website of the A&N Administration at https://andaman.gov.in. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their inputs in writing to the Directorate of Fisheries at Sri Vijaya Puram or via email to dirfish.and@nic.in. The deadline for submitting feedback is 30 days from the date of publication.
This participatory approach is expected to refine the policy framework and address the needs of the local fishing community while fostering sustainable growth in the fisheries sector.
