Residents of Makachua are facing drinking water crises due to lack of rain. Makachua is a part of Little Nicobar Island. Recently a signal was sent by the First Captain of Makachua to Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay informing about the water crises at the village.
Little Nicobar Island falls under the Administrative Control of Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay. The village of Makachua is completely cutoff from Campbell Bay and can only be reached through boats. The village has no communication facility except for Police Radio.
All the important communications are conveyed by the residents through Police Radio.
The Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has declared Andaman and Nicobar Islands to have 100% Functional Household Tap Connections but water scarcity in remote villages like Makachua is still a cause of concern.
Andaman Public Works Department must find ways to store enough water in remote areas so that the residents do not face drinking water crises during summer months when there is hardly any rainfall.
Nicobar Times spoke to Mr. Barnabas, Chairperson , Tribal Council, Great Nicobar and Little Nicobar and he confirmed the water crises situation in Makachua village.
