In accordance with Section 135C of the Representation of the People Act 1951, coupled with Rule 86 of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Excise Regulation 2012, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has issued a directive declaring the 4th of June, 2024, the day of counting of votes of Lok Sabha Election, to be observed as a ‘DRY DAY’.
Effective on this designated day, all liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs, and any establishments engaged in the sale or service of alcohol are hereby prohibited from vending or serving liquor to any individual.
This directive extends its reach to include IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) vending licensees, namely ANIIDCO (Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Limited), CSD (Canteen Stores Department) – Unit Run Canteens, all Defence Canteens, Police Mess, and all Private Bar Licensees operating within the entire Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The order serves as a regulatory measure in adherence to the electoral process and aims to maintain decorum and compliance with the law during the specified period.
This announcement underscores the commitment of the administration to uphold the law and ensure the smooth conduct of democratic processes within the Union Territory.
