The Directorate of Shipping Services has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and convenience of island residents, particularly in matters concerning health, emergency mobility, and community well-being.

In response to requests from residents of Bambooflat and nearby areas, and after a thorough review of the practical challenges faced by families during medical emergencies and moments of bereavement, the Directorate has taken a compassionate decision. With immediate effect, a maximum of two (02) two-wheelers, along with attendants accompanying an ambulance carrying referred patients or a mortuary van transporting mortal remains, will be permitted to embark on the vehicle ferry on priority from either side—Bambooflat or Phoenix Bay—during scheduled trips. The night standby vessel facility at Bambooflat will be utilised exclusively for transporting ambulances with patients referred by hospitals.

This relaxation is being extended purely on humanitarian grounds, acknowledging the emotional distress families experience and the need for timely movement during such sensitive situations. The Directorate appeals to all commuters to cooperate with this arrangement in the spirit of community support and compassion.

The Directorate of Shipping Services reiterates its commitment to providing transport services that are efficient, respectful, and sensitive to the needs of the island community. (Story Based on PR)
