In line with directives from the Chief Secretary of A&N Administration to conduct monthly mock drills across departments, the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) organized an Earthquake Mock Drill at its main administrative building on 13th November 2025.
The exercise, supervised by the Nodal Officer Disaster Management, DSS, witnessed active participation from employees of the DSS Main Administrative Building, Information Centre, STARS Ticketing Counter, and the DSS Disaster Management Team.
During the drill, a total of 127 personnel were successfully evacuated to a designated shelter point. The scenario also involved the rescue of three simulated injured individuals, who were promptly administered first aid and safely evacuated by the response team.
Mr. J. Gopinath, Deputy Director (i/c), DSS, oversaw the entire exercise, ensuring that all response protocols were efficiently followed. Once the drill concluded and the situation was declared normalized, personnel returned safely to their workstations.
The Directorate emphasized that such preparedness drills are crucial in fostering a culture of readiness and resilience, ensuring the safety of personnel and assets against natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, and other emergencies.
