In line with the directive of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, to conduct monthly mock drills across departments for strengthening preparedness and promoting discipline, the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) carried out a mock drill on a boat capsize scenario on October 10 at the Marine Dockyard.

The exercise simulated the capsize of the vessel ML Ramakrishna and was conducted under the overall supervision of the Incident Commander, Mr. B. C. Sarkar, Deputy Director (Shipping Services). The disaster management team of DSS actively participated in the drill, which aimed to assess and enhance emergency response capabilities.

As part of the exercise, 20 personnel, simulating passengers and crew members, were successfully evacuated to the designated safe area in the Passenger Hall. A coordinated search and rescue operation was carried out, during which the response team boarded MV Mohit equipped with essential gear such as a portable DG set, pump set, and life jackets to tackle the simulated emergency.

Two cases of minor injuries were also simulated and promptly attended to by the first aid team on standby, equipped with a medical first aid kit. The entire operation was executed in a well-coordinated manner, demonstrating effective teamwork and adherence to safety protocols.

The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to passenger and personnel safety, emphasizing that such regular mock drills are essential for fostering a culture of preparedness, discipline, and resilience in dealing with marine emergencies.
